Trying to use deep sky stacker. I only took 18 lights & 18 darks, just to try this out, and I keep getting a message saying not enough stars. Change detection threshold. Well, I change detection threshold were it is showing that 56 stars were detected and it still gives me the same problem. This is the tutorial I am following:
http://flintstonestargazing.com/2009/06/26/my-quick-deepskystacker-...
Are my pictures just that lousy or is something else settings wise wrong?

Here are one of the light frames 3min @ iso 800 using a LP filter. I took 18 of these with the same settings.

Wow, Is that Lyra? Ok, on not enough stars... go to ADVANCED tab in register settings while you are registering your images, move the slider up just slightly, The click the button "Calculate Number of detected stars". above 28 should be good, 40 is even better.. then click OK... it will register the images.

I think I tried that. I had it on all diff settings, but it still only said one light would be used. I will try it again if I get time.

Hi Ken,
One more thing, it looks like you might need to change your aperture settings, I am not sure, because I have never used a DSLR and adapter with a telescope, but I will bet if you experiment with the aperture you can get that relief in the image corrected or you can just crop it.

About the stars detected problem- sounds like you just need to change your exposure settings in the images a bit more, but it sounds like you are off to a great start!

Actually one more thing- I never have even tried darks before in a single one of my images... try to stack without darks first, and see how the star detection problem changes

I did find the manual online has good def. For the different frame types (bias, etc.) I will have to try this over the weekend. Also need to work on my alignment. After trying dss you couldn't even recognize the picture. Although I think it may have been my settings.

All 20 frames stacked, you can't even tell what the picture is. Must be my alignment. Joe, that looks pretty good! Onn my phone, it almost looks like if I had a good align, and no moon, I could probably get a good picture of m57 with only one long exposure?! (I am looking at it on my phone, may be diff story on pc screen)

Thats right Ken, with a good alignment and no moonlight coming in the end of the tube, you should be able to ge a very nice m57 with one 150 second exposure, especially with your camera.
